Helen Stevens

Helen very kindly accepted an invitation to work at Framing Matters in a part time capacity as a designer and framing assistant.  She was ‘head hunted’ by Cathy and with some encouragement she was enticed to come out of retirement to make use of her artistic skills at Framing Matters.  Helen comes to Framing Matters with great experience in retail which makes her well suited to work with customers at the front counter.  She is also a very talented needle worker whose skills are very much in need in the framing industry.  Her knowledge and skills in this particular area ensures that the preservation practices used in framing needle art at Framing Matters are not compromised.

Helen came to Canberra as a child and grew up here.  After marrying, she lived in other parts of Australia as well as spending time overseas when her husband's work took him to postings in other countries.  She is now, fortunately for Framing Matters, permanently settled in Canberra.  Helen has three children and five grand children who give her great pleasure.

Helen is not one to let the ‘grass grow under her feet.’  She is constantly following many of her interests.  When not spending time with her family she is pursuing her hobbies which include embroidery, knitting, gardening and exercising.  She says she needs to exercise in order to keep up with her grand children!!  Helen has had a lifelong interest in arts and all handcrafts and has taught classes in this area.

About working at Framing Matters, Helen says, “I was enticed out of retirement by the beauty and variety of art and handwork that comes into Framing Matters.  I am delighted to be part of a team that brings out the best in artworks for our clients to enjoy.  There is a very warm atmosphere amongst staff members and this comfortable working environment allows me to easily put my skills into practice.”
