Preventative Conservation Framing (also referred to as preservation framing)

Light and other environmental factors such as humidity and pollution can be a threat to artworks, resulting in their rapid deterioration. In preservation framing, the professional picture framer uses materials and techniques which will preserve and protect the art for many years.

Preventative conservation framing includes:
* applying reversible framing methods
* applying support to the artwork which allows natural expansion and contraction
* the use of preservation quality materials
* using UV filtered glazing
* sealing the back of the framed work to reduce the effects of temperature and humidity changes

Non-preservation Framing

Artworks which do not require preservation framing can be framed in a number of ways, which visually enhance the artwork and provide it with a moderate level of protection.  At Framing Matters, customers requesting non-preservation level of framing can be assured that the techniques used to frame the artworks will be the same as in preservation framing, the only difference being in the materials being used. These materials will be of good quality but will not have the manufacturers' "preservation" seal of approval.

Experienced Staff

The staff at Framing Matters are skilled in applying framing techniques which can extend the life of the artworks being framed. During the design stage of framing, the staff discuss the type of framing our customers
desire for their artwork, and give them a range of options to consider. If the artworks to be framed are considered to be valuable (aesthetically, sentimentally, historically or financially), the staff will recommend preservation framing.

On occasions the staff at Framing Matters are presented with valuable artworks that have incurred some damage. As the staff are not qualified to repair these works of art, they advise the customers that the services of a qualified conservator may be required. Framing Matters works closely with a variety of conservators to whom customers can be referred.
